Mission Statement

Bloom is a femme-curated, community-powered arts festival with a commitment to radical equity, collective expression, community care and environmental stewardship. Bloom forefronts the creativity and innovation of Femme, Queer, and BIPOC artists and changemakers in the Southern Ontario region.

Bloom was born in 2022 from the convergence of two beloved Toronto based events, Psylush and Nomada Project. Founded by Farah and Winnie, Bloom carries forward Psylush's commitment to harm reduction and community care and embraces Nomada's vision of bridging artistic communities of live music and DJ performances.

Together, these roots have given us Bloom. A festival that honors the importance of artistic community, harm reduction and environmental stewardship, cultivating its own unique identity in southern Ontario's culture landscape.

Bloom would not be possible without the hard working and dedicated crew that work year round to bring this vision to fruition.

We will be gathering on the traditional lands of Anishinabewaki, Wendake-Nionwentsio, Mississagua and the Haudenosaunee people; governed under Treaty 20, 1818, land that has been inhabited by Indigenous peoples from the very beginning. Today, this area is still the home to many Indigenous peoples, and we acknowledge all the generations of people who have stewarded this land and recognize the great privilege of being able to gather here.

We share this Land Acknowledgement in part to humbly express our acknowledgement, privilege and gratitude to the First Nations; and to call ourselves into activation for justice for Aboriginal people on Turtle Island. For those who are settlers, what can we all do? Activate for justice. Initiate conversations amongst ourselves and others about Indigenous issues. Call out the continued genocide of Indigenous people on Turtle Island, take action in our communities. Hold governments accountable to their promises regarding the struggles that communities face at the hands of settler colonialism. Read the Truth and Reconciliation Final Report -- consider how we can support the calls to action. Locate and support local Friendship Centres, and Indigenous Organizations and grassroot projects. Speak up; bring this conversation and activation to other community events you/we're a part of; volunteer/show up; participate in the redistribution of resources and reparations by way of donations. Even a small amount of any of the above is something.

As organizers of this gathering, we are committed to:

1) Having copies of TRC reports to be loaned/read at the gathering.

2) Initiate conversations and collective activation

3) Having conversations on the land with one another

4) Treading lightly on this land with humility - respecting the animals, plants, and all of our surroundings by leaving no trace.

This experience is what we all make it, so if you plan on coming we encourage you to share and contribute to our collective experience. We are all responsible for creating a safe and fun weekend together.

We are so excited for you to join us for Bloom and can’t wait to see you! If you have any questions at all please reach out to us at bloomfestinfo@gmail.com
